I decided to launch Charlotte TRACKS after my first website, Triangle TRACKS, experienced increasing popularity throughout the Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill region. I came up with the idea for Triangle TRACKS in January 2008, after contemplating how to entertain my three children during their winter "track-out break," which came on the heels of a nearly two-week Christmas break. My kids attend year-round school in Wake County and have three-week breaks after completing each academic quarter, so we look for fun things to do during these breaks throughout the year.
As I thought about places we could go and things we could do, I found myself wishing there was ONE website that consolidated ALL of the local resources for children in the Triangle, so I could visit it daily to find fun events and activities for children.
Then it hit me... I could create this site myself! I came up with the name, then got to work researching various categories, such as camps, schools, museums, parks, birthday party venues and youth sports leagues. As I searched for resources within those categories, I stumbled upon new categories I had not yet thought of, like clubs, trends, family restaurants, children's photographers, hiking trails and more. Even now, I add new links under the various TRACKS categories nearly every week on both websites. There's so much in both regions for children to do and experience!
I maintain Charlotte TRACKS and Triangle TRACKS as a hobby, and spend the rest of my spare time freelance writing and editing, andvolunteering at my children's schools. For several years I worked long hours from home as a local magazine editor, but in November 2008 I decided to return to freelancing to enable more flexible hours so I could spend more time with my family.
I hope you find Charlotte TRACKS useful. Consider joining the Charlotte TRACKS social network so you canpromote local children's resources you come across via your personal Charlotte TRACKS blog, forum posts and the Charlotte TRACKS calendar (one of the most popular sections of Triangle TRACKS to date). My mission is simple: to consolidate the thousands of children's resources available in this region, thereby simplifying and improving life for you and your children.
Please send your feedback and comments about Charlotte TRACKS to me at epshugg@charlottetracks.com. I'd love to hear what you think about the site. See your around the TRACKS!
